Brexit: Wales Leading Economic Development Company calls for a peoples vote

22 November 2018

The Menter a Busnes Board has taken the unusual step of making a public announcement regarding a political process, calling for a people’s vote on the final terms of Brexit.

According to the non-political and independent company, businesses across Wales have expressed so much concern regarding the situation and the consequences of what is being dicussed, we must call on the British Government to reconsider and give people another opportunity to decide on our relationship with Europe.

“A 20% increase in production costs is common across many companies since Brexit vote,” says Alun Jones, Chief Executive at Menter a Busnes. “What’s more, companies exporting to Europe have seen a 30% reduction in orders, as countries require assurance that a regular supply of goods will be available in the future”.

Menter a Busnes directors feel that the lukewarm support given by the Prime Minister’s cabinet members in Westminster to her plans does not give businesses confidence in any part of the United Kingdom, particularly in Wales. There is still considerable doubt whether Parliament as a whole will approve the plans, and the threat of a further two years’ uncertainty and lack of confidence will be detrimental to the economy.

The company believes that the politicians have shown their inability to deal with the situation effectively in terms of reducing the concerns of businesses, and so people need the opportunity to express their opinion on the details of what is being agreed with the European Union.
