Information Technology Operations Manager

Menter a Busnes is one of Wales’ leading independent economic development companies. As well as delivering business support programmes and services on behalf of Welsh Government and other national and regional organisations, we work with commercial clients to design and deliver services in areas such a business support, entrepreneurship and innovation to develop and grow their businesses.

AIM OF THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to join Menter a Busnes to support our continuous growth plans. The company has over 120 computer users located across Wales at our offices in Aberystwyth, Meifod, Bangor, St. Asaph, Cardiff and Carmarthen, or home based.

The IT team is responsible for:

  • managing the effective and efficient operation of the company’s technical systems, with a clear focus on reliable and secure performance, and;

  • providing full and high-quality support for staff

This role is key to the company’s technical performance and flexibility, responsible for the efficient development, management and operation of our IT team, systems and procedures.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Manage, develop, coach and encourage the IT team to deliver reliable, efficient and professional IT services of the highest standard

  • Create annual integrated work programmes in consultation with the company’s internal teams/projects to assess their needs and overcome challenges by using modern technology

  • Lead on identifying, testing and evaluating continuous improvements in the company’s IT systems and operations, leading to new ways of working and data protection, whilst managing priorities in-line with available resources

  • Use structured methodology to plan and oversee IT projects, including managing any related project resources

  • Present information and data clearly and concisely in the form of reports and visual data to help with business planning and decision making

  • Ensure that the company’s IT solutions and systems enable continuous communication between teams/projects and external contacts

  • Negotiate, procure and manage contracts for IT services with providers, suppliers and external consultants

  • Work with the Finance Director to set the annual IT budget and manage expenditure, with a clear focus on value for money

  • Store and protect all relevant information regarding computer equipment and create and maintain effective processes to meet the needs of Data Protection Legislation, GDPR and relevant audit requirements across the company and within individual projects

  • Work closely with the Data Protection Officer to monitor the company’s compliance with GDPR and internal data protection procedures

  • Manage the development and implementation of IT policies in-line with relevant legislation, standards and good practice, and monitor their effectiveness

  • Lead on the company’s data protection, working to reduce the risk of data loss, accidental destruction and data theft

  • Ensure that the company succeeds in maintaining the Cyber Essentials standard and works towards achieving and maintaining the Cyber Essentials Plus standard within a specific timeframe

Technical

Work proactively as part of the IT team in fulfilling the following technical duties across the company:

  • Install and maintain all IT systems, machines and equipment, including creating and managing user accounts and the company’s network

  • Provide comprehensive support to staff, responding professionally to enquiries as required

  • Support staff to adopt and use new technology, arranging and/or providing training and knowledge transfer as required

  • Ensure that IT systems and equipment are developed and maintained with the relevant software and hardware, including implementing, testing and evaluating developments across the company and within individual projects

  • Maintain the company’s servers and networks, providing virtual, physical, onsite and/or cloud-based solutions, including essential security levels, e.g. firewalls, endpoint security, managing and logging access, managing software updates etc.

Other

  • Work on other projects within the Menter a Busnes Group as required, including commercial projects

  • Ensure that the needs of the IT team are met in terms of quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity

  • Accept other reasonable duties and responsibilities and represent Menter a Busnes as required

Experience

Demonstrable experience of working and succeeding in an IT role with senior technical and/or people managements responsibilities

Strong technical experience in networking and IT infrastructure, with the ability to be

Demonstrable experience of identifying, specifying, embedding, configuring and analysing systems ü
 
Experience in financial management, including budgetary control and reporting, financial forecasting and cost management

Demonstrable experience of managing and developing people

Skills and Knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of modern technology as well as emerging technologies, and how they can be applied to specific business purposes  ü
