An award winning Mid Wales honey company is enjoying the sweet taste of business success after expanding to a new production base, which was officially opened by a Welsh Government minister today.  Hilltop Honey has outgrown its previous 2,500 sq ft home in the nearby village of Caersws and now occupies a 14,000 sq ft unit in Newtown where the company expects to expand its workforce from 12 to 20 by the end of this year.  The company’s new headquarters was officially opened by Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths. Monty’s Brewery the Mid Wales based brewery is excited to announce that it received 3 Gold Stars in this year’s Great Taste Awards for its Oatmeal Stout, Dark Secret. There were 12,366 entries in this year’s prestigious competition covering all sorts of products from Salami to flour, but only 165 products received the coveted 3 Stars. The Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the “Oscars” of the food world. Welsh yogurt manufacturer Llaeth Y Llan (Village Dairy) has completed a multi-million pound expansion of its production facility with the support of a seven-figure finance package from HSBC and the Welsh government. The opening of the 2,500 sq ft facility, which marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the company’s 32-year history, was celebrated on Thursday 25 May with the unveiling of a plaque by The Cabinet Secretary for Environment & Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths AM. A large contingent of Welsh food and drink companies will soon be packing their bags and making their way across the Severn Bridge to do business at the UK’s largest international food show. Over 1300 exhibitors will be present at The International Food and Drink Event (IFE) in London, all looking to find new buyers and distributors from across the world. This year, Wales will host the judging of the Welsh entries to the Great Taste Awards 2015.  This will be the first time that the judging for the awards is held in Wales and will be a wonderful opportunity to promote the wealth of quality products produced here.    Judging will take place in the Cardiff area in early June 2015.   Entries for the 2014 Great Taste Awards were oversubscribed, therefore we would encourage you to submit your entries as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.   I look forward to welcoming your entries and to raising the profile of your business and your products
