Working Smarter Initiative Chairman visits the TAG project.

An independent adviser, Mr Gareth Williams, has been appointed by the Welsh Government to consider whether the regulatory framework that applies to farmers in Wales is measured and appropriate.  He will present a report of recommendations to Ministers in December.

He is visiting many farms and rural businesses to see what is working, what is most burdensome and where there are opportunities for improvement. As part of this information gathering exercise, he spent the day on November 16th visiting a Tier 1 TAG farm and the Dunbia lamb processing plant at Llanybyther.

The key aims of the visit were to:

•              To provide Mr Gareth Williams with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the on-farm development opportunities for Welsh sheep farmers with regards to sheep EID.

•              Demonstrate the TAG project aim of increasing the on farm value of the information recorded to satisfy cross compliance

•              View a fully functioning, electronic, high volume tag reader, with a tour of a major lamb processing plant.

Mr Williams found the visit very informative and commented that his findings during the visit would influence his input into the final report.
